ATOMIUM is an automotive chemistry product of natural origin. How does it work?

According to the principle of action tribological compounds Atomium  are not so called additives or excipients to the oils and lubricants, as they do not only improve the performance. Atomium additives interact with the metal surfaces directly on the zones of contact (friction surfaces) in motor parts and mechanisms.

Atomium tribological compositions help system of friction pair enter a new level of energy balance. Atomium works as a catalyst or initiator of adaptation processes of the system  friction pair + lubricant.

Auto chemical goods Atomiumcontribute to the formation of a new structure of the friction surfaces based on the metal crystal lattice. In the process of unit operation in the presence of Atomium there is a sequential gradual build-up of layers at the atomic level. That's why Atomium technology can be called nanotechnology.

Features of the formed structure (thickness, porosity, microhardness, oil-retaining capacity) are determined by the working conditions of the friction unit.
By appearance the layer provides an ideal gray-mirror surface. In fact this is a super-microporous structure of increased strength and, most importantly, increased oil-retaining ability, which, in fact, provides a unique set of properties of node, unit and the internal combustion engine.

Regularities of the layer formation

The process of formation of a protective layer in the friction area after Atomium processing can be divided into 3 stages:

Stage 1- the surface preparation A friction area goes through a fine cleaning in the areas which were deformed in the process of operation, so they are cleaned by soft abrasive included in the Atomium formula;

Stage 2 - the formation of protective layer - New layers of crystal structure are formed on the prepared surface of metal (steel, cast iron) which is a continuation of metal substrate friction parts. The protective structure grows "layer-by-layer". Material for the construction of the protective layer is iron, located in the lubricating oil in the form of product of the wear, as well as the substances included in Atomium formula.

Stage 3 – dynamic regulation of the protective layer – This stage involves the maintenance of the protective layer within parameters that are necessary for optimal operating conditions of the friction system. These parameters include thickness, porosity, waviness, microhardness, surface roughness, etc. Moreover, the presence of the Atomium lubricant, even in small amounts, there is a dynamic (adaptive) regulation of the parameters of the protective layer. During this period, the wear processes of contact friction surfaces is almost absent, because the protective layer has a high oil-retaining ability and the boundary mode of friction enters the hydrodynamic regime in which the wear is minimal.

Dynamics of the atomium layer formation

The figures below show how the original friction surface grows the new protective layer:

a) 600-fold increase of the surface. Ra = 1-2 microns.
b) The surface of the sample is gradually covered with the new structure.
c) and d) the original surface is almost completely covered with the new structure  (only in the background the original surface can be still seen).

Numerous expert evaluations in the automotive industry confirm that Atomium lubricants can:

  • Provide a unique opportunity to protect the internal combustion engine of any type, as well as other knots and mechanisms of the vehicle by the CIP process during their regular operation;
  • After 2-3 stages of treatment allow to form an ultra strong layer, which is able to protect the engine from wear even in the most extreme situations: oil starvation, high load, and high and low ambient temperatures.

For sports car owners, Atomium technology is a cheap and easy way to increase engine by power up to 10% while maintaining engine resource, as well as to improve the acceleration characteristics of the car as a whole (applying the complete Atomium treatment of all knots and mechanisms).
Careful car owners can achieve fuel economy of up to 8%. And this, with an average annual mileage of 20-30 thousand km  for 1.3-1.6 L engines equals to 250 liters of gasoline economy per year; for engines with a capacity of 2.4-3.6 L – up to 350 liters of gasoline economy per year. Besides fuel and oil economy Atomium treatment increases the engine lifecycle, helps to avoid capital repairs, and to reduce costs on spare parts and technical maintenance.

Atomium application cannot do any harm to any unit or knot. The effect of application in used engines is the first step to restore the worn out surfaces of a friction system with the help of the protective layer; which would function to restore compression and to decrease oil consumption on charcoal fumes. The new layer, by its unique oil-retaining abilities, considerably reduces losses on friction. As a result, fuel consumption decreases and capacity improves, as well as throttle response, noise and vibrations, even ecological indicators improve.

As for new engines - here again, in friction zones the new layer (up to 5 microns width) is formed. The thickness of 5 microns acts as a barrier to wear on the new spacings and prevents deterioration in the conditions of interfaces. Thanks to its anti-frictional properties, losses on friction drop dramatically which gives an increase of mechanical coefficient of efficiency. So, for all engine types, new and used, we provide a decrease of fuel consumption and an increase of capacity and throttle response.

However, the most important enhancement for both cases is a continuing increase of engine life cycle and the possibility to postpone a major repair for 50 – 150 thousand km.

Atomium is not a simple additive added into the lubricating oil. It is a substance that works with the metal - the surface in areas of friction. In its essence Atomium is the initiator of self-organising processes in a friction system. In other words, it’s a trigger in the transition processes when friction turns into more favorable operating conditions for its own state.

Physically, this is reflected in the fact that the friction system, with the help of Atomium, builds layer by layer a new surface which is more suitable for this node, for this sliding speed, loading, etc.
