Features

The principle of the device of a manual transmission can be described as follows: each gear corresponds to a pair of gears with a certain gear ratio – to put it very roughly, with a different ratio of gear diameters.

The transmission of the torque, the force from the engine, is transmitted at each time using one such pair – the rest rotate in free mode, without coupling with the shaft. When switching gears, the driver mechanically, using a lever, disconnects the connection to the shaft in the current working pair of gears and enters another pair into the connection with it.

Each pair of gears works with a high load and at a high speed of rotation. The gear teeth engage with each other and detach hundreds of times per second. Calculating the shape of a gear and its teeth is a complex engineering task.

If the entry of the teeth into contact is smooth, they are well lubricated – the mechanism works relatively quietly and evenly. If the hook is broken for any reason, vibrations and various noises appear. There is a crunch of the gearbox, sometimes it is said that "the box is humming" or "the box is howling". How exactly the box makes noise depends on the speed of rotation of the shafts and gears. This is not surprising – the faster the pair rotates, the more often there is a problem contact of the teeth, the higher the frequency of the hum or howl.

In addition, a single transmission may be problematic. For example, the first and third gears work normally, but only the second gear makes noise. This means that wear or other problems have accumulated in this pair of gears.

Below are some particularly common cases in which the use of tribotechnical compounds can solve the problem.

Transmission (gearbox) hums, howls, screams, makes noise

Noise occurs if the teeth – at least some of them – in the gearing of a pair of gears have an irregular shape, not the one that is provided for by the design calculation. The shape may be broken, for example, due to wear of the teeth. The gaps become suboptimal, there is micro backlash and consequently micro impacts at the entrance of teeth into engagement. At a high speed of rotation, this process occurs up to a hundred times per second, which gives a General hum or howl of the gearbox.

Another reason may be incorrect manufacturing or poor running-in of the box. Then extraneous noise will appear even on the new car.

Gearbox oil additive MGSB while in the working lubricant contributes to the formation of a special metal protective layer on the surfaces of teeth. This restores wear and gives them an optimal shape. In addition, the protective layer holds the lubricant film more firmly, which facilitates interaction. All together, this results in reduced noise.

Manual transmission jams when you change gears

Difficulty in shifting can be due to the fact that worn-out elements, ledges and grooves that provides the connection of the gears with the shaft, the teeth of the worn out synchronizers. Gearbox bearing hums, noise

Noise during operation of the bearing is associated with the fact that the smoothness of movement of its elements is disturbed. Most often, this is due to the development of the bearing cage, its wear. Tribo-compound (transmission oil additive), while in the lubricant of the bearing, allows you to restore the wear and tear, forming in its place a new metal surface structure. The recovery process is most active exactly where there are the greatest problems – local loads are always higher where micro-shock occurs. In this way, the surface of the cage is restored in an optimal way for the bearing to work.

This feature makes the use of a tribo-compound (gearbox oil additive) useful, for example, after a bearing has been bulkhead or a new one has been installed. The composition contributes to the correct running-in of parts.

Bulkhead or repair of the box

Sometimes it happens that even new parts of the manual transmission are not made quite high-quality, or are not well lapped exactly to each other, are worked in.

This causes noise and vibration in the new transmission, or in the box where parts were replaced during the repair / bulkhead.

In this situation, the application of tribo-compound additive can help to speed up the process of running-in and bedding to make it more effective. In some areas, the composition contributes to a more active destruction of surface micro-particles, if it has a suboptimal roughness.
