Cleaning the engine is normally one of the tasks of engine oil. All modern oils contain one or another additive package that gives them the ability to dissolve deposits in the engine and keep them in a suspended state (this property is called dispersing) until the moment of replacement.

If the car throughout its history used high-quality oils with high cleaning characteristics, oil changes were made in time, there were no overheating and any engine failures - then you can separately and not be bothered with additional cleaning of the engine with the help of "soft" or "fast" flushes. However, not every car can boast such a "clean" history. This means that the engine most likely contains deposits that the engine oil can not cope with on its own.

Presence of contamination in the engine can have various negative consequences:

  • First, they quickly contaminate any new oil. This means that from the very beginning, the oil works a little worse than it could. In the future, it is destroyed faster, loses its functional properties, protects the engine worse, which reduces its resource and pushes repair.
  • Second, contamination can interfere with individual mechanisms and nodes to cope with their work. For example, reducing the mobility of piston rings leads to a drop in compression, which means incomplete combustion of fuel. This is especially important to consider if there is a transition from a lower-quality oil to a higher-quality one. For example, from mineral oils to PAO-based (Polyalphaolefins) oils that have even higher washing and dispersing characteristics. In order to preserve the working properties of the new oil for longer and allow it to better protect the engine from friction, it makes sense to use the engine wash before replacing it to remove contamination as much as possible along with draining the old oil.

BUYING A USED CAR

When buying a used car on the secondary market, you can never be completely sure that its history is "clear". Even if you have a service book that shows timely maintenance AND oil change, it is never possible to know for sure - whether the engine overheated, whether the car worked in difficult conditions of prolonged standing in traffic, whether there were minor breakdowns.
